Hillary, Please Just Stop LYING...

I could be making a mountain of a molehill on this, but I really beleive the Bosnia gaffe may have closed the book on Hillary Clinton. We're less than a month away from the Pennsylvania primary, and Hillary has just come off as a Grade A, No. 1, USDA Prime Bullshit Artiste. Not only that, but she has now seriously pissed off most people who ever served in the military, which is quite a few heads in PA and in this country. It all basically just amounts to her pushing more people away.

Remember how, earlier in the year, Mitt Romney put his foot in it by saying his father "marched with Martin Luther King," or some such half-truth? Yeah....so do I, and look where Romney is now. He was already under fire for being a wooden and insincere speaker, but that kind of truth-bending put his credibility into serious question. Nobody knows whether or not that's the reason he lost, it probably isn't, but the simple fact people remember about it means it mattered.

So will this. It's already proven that Hillary is not winning any "swing" voters. Meaning no one new that was NOT going to vote for her before is voting for her now. Dems on the fence are clearly going for Obama. This little incident is just going to push more of them his way. Worse still, it may even cause more people to be disgusted with the Democrats altogether. You don't see John McCain making any of these fantastical lies, do you? The man was actually IN a war and therefore doesn't need to embellish or even talk about his military service. If you served in the military and were undecided in this election, who do you think you'd favor at this point??

It seems to me that this is the end for Hillary. Maybe its been the end for a while. It seems like she had the best odds back in 2000, when she ran for U.S. Senate. In some camps, it was all but assumed she'd be the Democratic candidate in 2008. Time wore on...the Hillary '08 stickers started showing up...and then in 2004 Barack Obama made one great speech at the Democratic Convention. Since then he has been like the little speck in Hillary's rear-view mirror that seems like nothing at first, but then grows almost imperceptibly closer until finally it is past her and she's staring at its liscense plate, trying to scrawl down the number before it gets to far away...

Meanwhile, she herself hasn't stepped on the gas. She has clung to the same two or three pillars of her campaign and engaged in the same-old lame nitpicking, while Obama has generated excitement and responded with class everytime he has found himself in hot water. While each of them may be equally un-prepared to take the Oval Office, Obama has at least come to the table with a new message and a new NAME. America is a young country, and we always love something newer, younger, more exciting.... It's practically written in our national DNA.

Hillary brings a time- and scandal-worn name to table, and finds herself in the woefully unfortunate position of running against hope. The race seemed like it was hers to lose, and she's gradually lost it by trying to hold on to what she had, rather than reach for something new.

All that is just to say that I think she's been losing steam for a while now. I'm not breaking new ground there. But, I do think this Bosnia thing is the first official nail in her coffin for this race. I don't think I'm making too much of it. Something like this is giong to stay with her throughout the rest of the race, and its only going to turn more people against her. Obama has run into trouble recently regarding the pastor at his church, but at least it seemed like he stepped up and took care of it. In fact, that was probably even a bigger deal than this Bosnia thing; that represented a lifetime association, whereas Hillary's mistake could have just been a one-off exaggeration (well, she did it twice, actually) induced by too many late-nights on the trail. But the only thing that matters is that it's another lie coming out of a Clinton's mouth...same old same old.

To me the real tradgedy in all this is that the Democrats seem to be fighting amongst themselves while the ship goes down, rather than grabbing the wheel and steering a course to victory.
