New Yorker Fiction Review #155: "Stuff" by Joy Williams

From the July 25, 2016 issue...

I hated Joy Williams' last story in The New Yorker, called "Chicken Hill," and I hate this one. Williams seems obsessed with the elderly and those with terminal illnesses. Which is fine. I mean, everyone's got to have their material. But her stories are wordy, difficult to pay attention to, and she stays far too wrapped up in the main character's head for her stories to be interesting to me. IDK. I'm in the Dallas airport, writing in this on my laptop with a quickly-elapsing 30 minutes of free internet, and that's about all I have to say.

I didn't read this, but I bet I would have hated it too. IDK.
